A massive manhunt is underway for three violent criminals who escaped from a maximum security jail in Southern California.

The FBI and U.S. Marshals are now offering a combined reward of $50,000 for information leading to the arrests of Bac Duong, Hossein Nayeri, and Jonathan Tieu.

New photos released by the Sheriff's Department showed the vent screen they cut open in their cell, using tools they obtained somehow. They escaped through the plumbing system and rappelled off the roof using a cord fashioned from bed sheets and towels.

They broke out sometime Friday morning and no one noticed for 16 hours.

Nayeri, a native of Iran, was being held without bond on charges of kidnapping, torture, aggravated mayhem and burglary. Authorities said he participated in the gruesome mutilation of a California marijuana dispensary owner at a desert spot where they believed he had hidden money.
