WATCH: Cop Gives Jaw-Dropping Performance of National Anthem

10 Times We Were Reminded in 2015 to Salute Police Officers

The West Virginia police officer whose rousing performance of the national anthem recently went viral joined Fox and Friends this morning for an incredible encore.

Before taking the stage, Officer Carlton Smith spoke to Brian, Steve and Anna about the surreal moment that’s now been watched by hundreds of thousands.

“No one knew that it was kind of an impromptu thing,” he said. “I didn’t have any time to warm up. They gave me about five minutes’ notice, so I kind of just walked around the concourse.”

But Smith’s performance ended up being so good that no one could even tell he was “the fill-in guy,” Steve pointed out.

“I appreciate that for sure, because I wasn’t sure about it,” the officer laughed.

Smith is a former contestant of American Idol, where he managed to make it to Hollywood before being sent home.
