Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) unveiled a new beard on social media, making him the first House Speaker to sport the facial hair in 90 years.
After posting the pic Monday, Ryan reached out to historians to figure out who the last bearded Speaker was.
Turns out it was Frederick H. Gillett, a Massachusetts Republican who served as Speaker from 1919 until 1925.
Hey @USHouseHistory, when was the last time a Speaker of the House sported a beard? https://t.co/tXbN864sS1 pic.twitter.com/DvMJyhwDdN

Ryan's spokeswoman said the beard is not part of the Movember social media trend, in which guys forego the razor for the month of November.
She said it was left over from a "deer camp" over Thanksgiving weekend in Wisconsin, and joked that the scruffy look will be sticking around for as long as Ryan's wife, Janna, allows.
Who better to assess the Speaker's new look than the ladies of "Outnumbered?" Watch the conversation above, and feel free to share your thoughts as well.
