Carson Campaign Manager: Journalists Aren't Even Trying to Do Their Homework
Dr. Ben Carson's campaign manager, Barry Bennett, joined Neil Cavuto on "Your World" to discuss questions surrounding Carson’s biography — specifically whether he embellished stories about his violent youth and an offer to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point.
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Monday that he does not believe that Carson has been subjected to more scrutiny than President Obama was as a candidate.
"People who run for president are going to have their claims scrutinized, particularly about their own biography," Earnest said.
Bennett told Cavuto, who is one of the moderators of Tuesday's Fox Business Network-Wall Street Journal Republican debate, that media scrutiny is one thing, but the claims can't be fabricated.
Bennett pointed out that even though Kyle Cheney, author of the Politico story challenging Carson's West Point story, retracted his "lie," the damage had been done.
"Journalists are not even trying to do their homework. They're trying to carry their agenda," Bennett said. "And that's what we object to."
