After a poor showing at the third Republican presidential debate, Jeb Bush acknowledged to donors Thursday afternoon that he needs to improve his debate performance.

"I realize I need to get better," the former Florida governor reportedly said during the conference call.

Bush said that he had seen the widespread criticism of his debate performance and was taking it all into account.

On "Outnumbered," Tucker Carlson said that in a conventional year, Bush would have gotten the nomination, but the American people are simply not clamoring for an establishment candidate.

"When the history of this period is written, I think, to be fair, you've got to say it was the wrong year for Bush," Carlson said. "That's my conclusion."
