The battle over sanctuary cities and illegal immigration is heating up, and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is at the center of the debate.

In a strongly worded letter to Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez, Abbott embraced cracking down on local governments that ban police from asking about a person's immigration status.

On "The Kelly File" tonight, Abbott explained that he plans on passing a law in his state that will outlaw sanctuary cities, put injunctions on sheriffs who refuse to comply with U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement's (ICE) and use economic santions on counties that refuse to comply with immigration laws.

"The obligation of everyone in this state and nation is to ensure that we remain a land of laws. And that means enforcing them, not applying them on a case-by-case basis.
