A South Carolina police officer has been fired after he was shown in a viral video slamming a teenage girl to the ground while she was still in her desk.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said at a press conference moments ago that Deputy Ben Fields did not follow the proper procedure.

Lott said Fields' use of force was not based on the department's training and unacceptable.

In cell phone footage, 34-year-old Fields can be seen dragging the girl across the classroom.

The student had reportedly refused to leave the classroom after being repeatedly asked.

A third video has surfaced showing the girl striking the officer, authorities said.

The FBI opened a civil rights investigation Tuesday.
