Behind the Scenes at the Benghazi Hearing with Committee Members
Today's Benghazi hearing had tough questions from Republicans and tough criticisms of the hearing by Democrats.
"On The Record's" Griff Jenkins spoke to some of the committee members behind the scenes.
"It's been a productive hearing," Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) said. "It's been an opportunity to have a lot of questions asked to the secretary and a lot of questions answered, particularly in light of documents that have been fairly late-breaking."
Rep. Adam Smith (D-CA), on the other hand, said it's been an embarrassment to see what the Republicans on the committee are doing.
"They are clearly trying to attack Hillary Clinton from every conceivable angle," Smith asserted. "It might as well be a Republican presidential debate from what they're attacking."
Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) agreed with Smith's assessment, noting that chairman Trey Gowdy's first question was about Sidney Blumenthal, and had nothing to do with Benghazi.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) disagreed and said that valuable new information has come to light during the hearing, including the revelation that Clinton spoke to the Egyptian Prime Minister and said that the Benghazi terror attack was planned and was not caused by an anti-Islam video.
