On "Special Report" tonight, Charles Krauthammer said that Vice President Joe Biden will likely enter the 2016 presidential race so that the Democrats have a back-up plan if Hillary Clinton's campaign flounders.

"I think the reason he wants to be in there is if lightning strikes ... meaning an act of the FBI, some indictment, something just truly destructive from which she can't recover, something out of the campaign, he wants to be standing there as an insurance policy," Krauthammer said.

He explained that he doesn't believe the Democrats would actually nominate Bernie Sanders, a socialist in his 70's, if Clinton's campaign were to suddenly implode.

"So if he's just there, standing there, if and when - this would be a very long shot - he'd be in a position to be the one to whom everyone would turn."
