McCarthy: House Bill Will Fund Gov't, Stop Planned Parenthood Funding
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said on "America's Newsroom" that Republicans will pass a bill that will fund the government and cut off funding for Planned Parenthood.
McCarthy said the bill will place a one-year moratorium on federal funding while investigations are conducted into the harvesting of organs from live fetuses, exposed in a series of disturbing videos.
Martha MacCallum asked McCarthy about conservatives who have vowed that they will shut the government down over the funding.
McCarthy said if there is a government shutdown over this issue, then it will be Democrats' fault.
"Harry Reid sat there on June 10th and told his Democratic caucus that they had planned a whole strategy to shut the government down," he said.
McCarthy called the videos "horrific," promising a "long-term strategy" for Republicans to pursue. He said during the proposed moratorium, the funds will be moved to "federally qualified health clinics to make sure women's health is provided for."
The White House said Thursday that the proposed House bills would be vetoed by President Obama.
