A 9-year-old boy is donating his birthday money to the St. Paul police K-9 unit to buy a bulletproof vest for one of the dogs.

In lieu of gifts, Ethan Flint is asking his friends and family to donate to his GoFundMe page.

“I heard that some dogs had vests and some dogs didn’t, and I didn’t think it was fair,” he explained.

Ethan has used his birthday as a fundraising opportunity since 2012. He has donated to the Lake Superior Zoo, the Como Zoo Giraffe exhibit and the MN Herpetological Society.

Ethan has raised more than $1,200 for the vest.
