On "Special Report," Charles Krauthammer reacted to Ben Carson gaining on Donald Trump in a new CBS News/New York Times poll.

Carson's support has risen significantly since early August, when he polled at just six percent. Carson is now at 23 percent, putting him in second place to Trump's 27 percent.

"If Carson surpasses him, Trump won't like that," Krauthammer said, noting that Trump divides the world into winners and losers. "He's the winner. Up until now, he's winning everything, every poll."

Krauthammer noted how irritated Trump appeared yesterday when discussing the media's coverage of Carson's rise.

"I think if Carson pulls ahead, even if it's a point or two, that's going to be hard on Trump," Krauthammer said.

He added that if Trump decides to respond by attacking a likeable, respected man like Carson, that could have a negative impact for the current GOP front-runner.
