Authorities are investigating a string of American flag thefts in a Florida neighborhood.

David Behrens, a 74-year-old Air Force vet, told FOX 35 that someone stole Old Glory from the front yard of his Orange City home. He noticed the theft right away and has since replaced the flag that he had flown beside a P.O.W. flag for the past seven years.

“It’s our country,” he said. “We should be able to do what we want in our own yard, fly a flag or two – nothing wrong with that.”

Manuel Matute, who lives a few blocks away, said that his American flags have been stolen twice. The first flag was stolen three weeks ago, and the second one vanished this week. Matute said that the thief or thieves actually had to climb a fence to steal Old Glory.

There are no suspects in connection with the thefts.
