On "Special Report" tonight, Charles Krauthammer reacted to Republican presidential contender Ben Carson's surging poll numbers.

A new poll from Monmouth University found that 23 percent of likely Republican Iowa caucus-goers support Carson, putting him in a tie for first place with Donald Trump. The poll also found that a staggering 81 percent of people had a favorable impression of the retired neurosurgeon.

"Who knew that this was 'the summer of Carson?'" Krauthammer said, calling him the "anti-Donald Trump."

"You've got to give Carson his due," Krauthammer said. "He is the ultimate gentle, soft-spoken family doctor. Who cannot like the guy? And he doesn't pretend, he doesn't put on airs, he doesn't attack. He's just very soft-spoken."

Krauthammer said that Carson was light on policy at the Fox News debate several weeks ago, but he was clever and charming.

"He's the sleeper here," Krauthammer stated. "His strength is not just anti-establishment. He's a completely wonderful guy that is hard not to actually like."
