Friend of Slain Reporter: 'She Died Doing What She Loved'
A woman who went to college with slain WDBJ7 reporter Alison Parker today remembered the 24-year-old journalist in an interview on "Happening Now."
Laura Weeks, who worked with Parker on their school newspaper, called the young journalist an inspiration.
“Her passion for journalism and storytelling and getting the facts right was so inspiring – not just to me but to our whole staff,” Weeks said.
Weeks said she had an event a few months ago in Roanoke that Parker attended. Weeks also recently went on a double date with Parker and her boyfriend, WDBJ7 anchor Chris Hurst. Weeks said that she was so happy to witness the love that the couple shared.
She added that Parker came to work every day with a smile on her face, which is how she’d want to be remembered.
“She died doing what she loved,” Weeks said.
