Gen. Scales: ISIS Leader Killed By U.S. Strike Was a 'Big Fish'
A U.S. airstrike in Iraq has killed ISIS No. 2 leader Haji Mutazz, national security officials confirmed to Fox News this afternoon.
Mutazz, a top deputy to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was killed near the ISIS stronghold of Mosul on Tuesday by an American drone.
Fox News military analyst Maj. Gen. Bob Scales called Mutazz a "big fish" and a "key operational" figure within ISIS. Scales said ISIS "will suffer" because of his death.
Scales noted that an American strike almost killed al-Baghdadi just a few days prior to this strike.
He said both strikes occurred along a main road between Mosul and Raqqa, Syria.
