Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump boasted over the weekend that he would be willing to spend $1 billion of his own money if that's what it takes to win the 2016 election.

Peter Doocy reported on "Happening Now" that Trump has only spent about $1.5 million of his reported $10 billion fortune on his campaign so far.

Trump has said that he does not have to worry about pleasing lobbyists and special interest groups like other candidates because his campaign is self-funded.

Trump said he even turned down $5 million from a lobbyist wanting to contribute to his campaign.

"I don't want it, because when you come back to me in two years and you want help for a company that you're representing or a country that you're representing, I'm going to do the right thing for the people of the United States," Trump said.

He added that his fellow GOP candidate Jeb Bush, who has raised more than $100 million, is a "puppet" to his donors.
