Cops: Mom Left Kids in Car to Get Drunk; 4-Year-Old Son Blew into SUV's Breathalyzer
Police say a Florida mom left her kids in the car to get drunk at a bar.
Authorities say 35-year-old April King went into Frogger's, a sports bar in Apopka, while leaving her 2-year-old and 4-year-old children in a running Ford Escape. An employee at Froggers noticed the children in the vehicle and called police.
WESH.com reported that King restarted her SUV during her interaction with police, prompting the interlock device to sound. Police said that she tried to avoid blowing into the device and that her 4-year-old son blew into the car’s breathalyzer.
The officer then asked the child if he often blew into the device, but he said it had only been in the car for two days.
Police described King as unstable on her feet, with glossy red eyes and slurred speech. She has prior DUIs and was just released from an alcohol rehab facility last month.
King has been charged with child neglect and remains in jail without bond. Her children are being cared for by their grandmother.
