9-Year-Old Bat Boy Dies After Being Hit in Head by Warmup Swing
A nine-year-old bat boy was tragically killed at a baseball game this weekend in Kansas.
Kaiser Carlile was running to retrieve a bat when he accidentally ran into the swing of the on-deck batter for the amateur Liberal Bee Jays.
Kaiser was wearing a helmet, but was still knocked unconscious by the force of the swing.
The team announced Carlile's death on its Facebook page and wore honorary wristbands.
An umpire and a player caught the boy before he fell to the ground. The home plate umpire, a paramedic, tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate him.
The National Baseball Congress team plays its games in Liberal, Kansas, outside Wichita.
A GoFundMe page was set up to assist the family with medical bills and other expenses.
