Rescuers spent hours keeping a killer whale safe after they found her stranded on rocks in Canada.

Whale Point, Guardians from Hartley Bay, and World Wildlife Federation worked together to keep the whale wet and cool until the tide came up more than six hours later.

“It was a team effort, and fortunately on some level this transient orca understood that we were trying to help,” Whale Point wrote on Facebook. “She cried often, which tore at our hearts, but as the tide came up there were many cheers as this whale was finally free after 6+ hours of being stuck on this rock.”

Whale Point says that the whale has been identified as T069A2 and is 9 years old.
