TN Lawmaker: Obama Must Lower White House Flags for Chattanooga Victims
Why hasn’t President Barack Obama ordered American flags to fly at half-staff in the wake of the Chattanooga shooting that claimed the lives of five servicemen?
Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-Tenn.) said this morning on Fox Business Network’s “Varney & Co.” that he doesn’t know why the flag hasn’t been lowered at the White House and other federal buildings.
“It needs to happen, and it needs to happen soon,” he said, adding that he "can't imagine" why the flags are not at half-staff.
Stuart Varney pointed out that the flags were lowered at the White House following the Sandy Hook and Navy Yard massacres.
He asked DesJarlais whether the decision may have something to do with President Obama refusing to "acknowledge domestic Islamic terrorism."
"He has a hard time with that concept for some reason. It's here. It's here to stay," said DesJarlais.
DesJarlais is also sponsoring a bill to allow the arming of soldiers on military installations in the wake of last week’s shooting.
White House Press Secretary declined to speak on the issue this afternoon.
Will WH lower flags to half-staff? Earnest: "I don't have more information on the status of the flag." #Chattanooga
