A mysterious Rhode Island beach explosion launched a 60-year-old woman out of her chair and onto the rocks of a jetty this weekend.

Kathleen Danise, 60, suffered a concussion, two fractured ribs and internal bleeding when a baffling blast erupted beneath her beach chair at Salty Brine State Beach. The force of the explosion sent her flying several feet into the air and threw her onto nearby jetty rocks.

Danise said that she has no memory of the blast.

“The last thing I remember was reading my book, and we watched a gentleman get ready to go scuba diving,” she said.

Officials reopened the beach today following an investigation. They say there’s no evidence of an explosive device and that there are no gas lines along the beach.
