An Australian man heroically leapt onto train tracks to save his 18-month-old granddaughter.

The 62-year-old grandpa took his hand off the child’s stroller for just a moment. It then rolled off the platform and plunged onto the train tracks. Video shows the man dash after the stroller and jump onto the train tracks to rescue his granddaughter from the path of an oncoming train.

The man managed to lift the stroller off the tracks as the train sounded its warning horn, and then he dashed off to a broader section of the track.

Police called the man’s actions heroic.

“Baby [was] very lucky, grandfather just as lucky,” Acting Inspector Paul Reynolds said.

The little girl suffered some cuts and bruises, but will be OK. The man was not hurt.
