A military dad was reunited with his family just in time for Father's Day.

Nevada National Guardsman Glen Spadin returned from a one-year deployment to Afghanistan and surprised his six children at the Reno Rodeo.

Spadin's children, who range in age from 6 months to 9 years, were called to the arena floor along with their mother during a Patriot Night ceremony Friday.

Two rodeo officials on horseback then entered the arena, with the animals shielding Spadin, who was on foot. When he emerged, the children reacted with a mixture of shock and excitement.

"I missed birthdays and holidays and vacations and lots of things. And the kids growing up, learning how to talk, learning how to walk," Spadin said.

"It's a relief that I'm back with my wife and kids."
