Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon joined Harris Faulkner today to discuss last night's deadly shooting at a South Carolina church.

Cannon shared that he tried to reach out to Clementa Pinckney, the pastor and state senator who was gunned down in the shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

"It gives me chills to think about it," Cannon said. "I reached out to the senator and was unable to get him. It was just horrific."

"This was most obviously an attack against those victims, but it was in many respects an attack against the community," Cannon said. "We all grieve to an extent, certainly not the same extent as families and close friends."

Cannon also shared that he has both employees and friends who are members of the congregation at the historic church.
