'We Were Devastated': The Duggars Sit Down With Megyn Kelly
Watch clips of the interview with the Duggars, here.
In an exclusive interview that will air tonight, Megyn Kelly sat down with Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar in their Arkansas home to discuss the child molestation allegations against their son, Josh Duggar.
Kelly asked Jim Bob and Michelle what it was like as parents when they learned about their son's actions.
"There was so much grief in our hearts. I think as parents we felt we’re failures, you know? Here we tried to raise our kids to – to do what’s right and know what’s right. And yet, one of our children made really bad choices and I think as a parent we were just – we were devastated," Michelle Duggar said.
Kelly asked if the backlash has been greater because people reject who the Duggars are, in particular their Christian beliefs.
"Christianity is not about being perfect or about being a perfect family, but it’s actually about being forgiven," Jim Bob said. "And so I think, as people on the outside think, 'Well, Christians are supposed to be perfect ... You’re supposed to live this perfect life.' No, you know what? All of us as Christians, we struggle every day."
Last week, Josh Duggar and his parents issued statements about the allegations, which date back to 2002, referring to the incidents as a "dark and difficult time" that brought them closer to God.
Josh Duggar resigned his position at the Family Research Council after the reports surfaced that he sexually assaulted four female siblings in the large family, plus an additional female victim.
TLC has pulled all of the current episodes of "19 Kids and Counting" from television. The future of the show is still uncertain.
