Country music legend Lee Greenwood has written a bestselling new children's book that introduces his famous song "God Bless the USA" to a whole new generation.

Greenwood joined Uma Pemmaraju on "America's News Headquarters" to discuss why he wrote "Proud to Be an American" and why it's important to be a patriot.

He explained that he wrote the book to give parents and grandparents a tool to help teach children at a very early age what patriotism is all about.

Greenwood said that the book, which brings the lyrics to "God Bless the USA" to life with illustrations, also includes a free audio download of the iconic song.

"I'm proud to be an American, proud to be a citizen of the greatest country on Earth," Greenwood said. "And I think everybody who hears my song and sings it agrees."

"If the kids learn early on to be a patriot, by the time they get into their 20s and 30s, I think it will make a difference in our culture."
