The gumbo must be out of this world at this Washington, D.C. restaurant. 

A customer at Blue 44 left a $2,000 tip earlier this week, surprising the owner and staff members. 

The gracious patron left the gratuity on a $93 bill Monday night after dining with a friend.

Christofer Nardelli, the owner of the four-year-old restaurant, said that he was shocked when he found out how huge the tip was.

“This is the kind of stuff you see in the restaurant business that happens to some guy in the Midwest or the West Coast,” Nardelli told the Washington Post. “You think, who are these people who give these extraordinarily generous tips that just made a server or bartender’s day? And then sure enough, it happened to us.”

Besides gumbo, the customer also ate fried chicken and had a beer. Nardelli shared that the customer lives in the area and is a regular at the restaurant.

The man instructed on the receipt that $1,000 of the tip go to chef James Turner, $500 to bartender Laura Dally and $500 to Nardelli. 

He also left a note — “Thank you for the Gumbo!”
