Faulkner: 'They Replaced Our American Flag With a Basketball Hoop'
The "Outnumbered" panel reacted today to the controversy surrounding Under Armour's "Band of Ballers" T-shirt.
The shirt shows the silhouette of several men raising a basketball hoop in an imitation of the famous flag-raising at the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II.
After an outpouring of criticism on social media, the company apologized Saturday and said that it will stop selling the controversial shirt.
"To compare basketball players to our soldiers that were fighting and beating the Japanese at Iwo Jima, that is appalling to me and it's offensive," Ainsley Earhardt said.
"They replaced our American flag with a basketball hoop," Harris Faulkner stated. "I just question the perspective and the context. Why would you take our American flag down and replace it with a hoop?"
Andrea Tantaros said she thinks that Under Armour responded appropriately and she accepts the company's apology.
"I don't think there was ill will," Tantaros said. "I think that they thought this was a cool image, somehow."
"Somebody dropped the ball," Sandra Smith remarked.
