Mary Lee, a 3,456-pound female shark, was tracked this morning roughly 10 to 15 miles off the coast of Brigantine, New Jersey.

The 16-foot shark has traveled nearly 20,000 miles since being tagged with an electronic tracker off Cape Cod, Massachusetts in 2012 by Ocearch.

The nonprofit group is researching sharks and uses satellite tags to track their movements.

Researchers are alerted with a ping each time her fin surfaces above the water.

Earlier this month, Mary Lee was off of the Virginia-Maryland coast and in April, she was near North and South Carolina.
