Outrageous Student Wears Fake Bomb for 'Promposal,' Gets Suspended
Dumbest prom proposal ever?
If not, it's right up there. A student in Washington state wore a fake bomb around his waist as he asked a female classmate to the prom.
It caused a brief scare among school officials, until they realized 18-year-old Ibrahim Ahmad was trying to be funny.
It was actually a paintball vest with some red tubes and wires around it. Ahmad pulled the stunt at lunchtime, standing up in the cafeteria with a sign that read,“I kno it’s A little Late, But I’m kinda…THE BOMB! Rilea, Will U Be My Date To Prom?”
Ahmad said since he's of Middle Eastern descent, he thought the bomb idea would be "funny and clever."
Rilea said yes, but Ahmad apparently won't be going to this weekend's prom, since he's reportedly been suspended for five days.
He told The Columbian that he wanted his "promposal" to be big, noting the trend among teens of posting their proposals on social media.
Ahmad also argued that his ethnicity was a factor in the school's decision to suspend him.
“It was really unfair, and it kind of felt racist,” Ahmad told the paper. “If anyone else did that, I feel like no one else would have gotten in trouble for it.”
Even though none of the other students were panicked by it, the school's superintendent said he felt discipline was warranted given "the way the world is today."
