Charles Krauthammer reacted tonight on "Special Report" to reports that the Obama administration knew that Iran was merely several months away from obtaining a nuclear weapon, but led the American people to believe otherwise.

"Why? They were pretending otherwise because in that way they could portray [Israeli Prime Minister] Bibi Netanyahu - who actually gave an accurate assessment - as an alarmist trying to stir up war," Krauthammer said.

He added that the White House also kept its assessment of Iran's nuclear timeline quiet to justify the long, drawn-out negotiations that were renewed twice.

The reason they are acknowledging the short timeline now is to serve their political purposes, Krauthammer asserted.

"This administration is determined to get a deal and will not let the facts stand in the way."
