In the words of the great Yogi Berra, "It ain't over 'til it's over."

At the Pepsi Team Invitational track and field event in Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday, the University of Oregon's Tanguy Pepiot had a comfortable lead in the 3,000-meter steeplechase heading down the home stretch.

Instead of finishing strong, however, Pepiot, slowed up in the last 100 meters and prematurely started to celebrate, smiling and trying to pump up the crowd.

Pepiot didn't see the University of Washington’s Meron Simon gaining ground behind him.

Simon took advantage of Pepiot’s overconfidence, passing him at the finish line to win the race by a mere tenth of a second.

It's a painful lesson that Pepiot surely won't soon forget.
