Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York has postponed a screening of “American Sniper” after the Muslim Students Association called for its cancellation.

RPI canceled the planned screening, which was set for last Friday, and said it would play the film with an educational forum in the future.

Muslim Student Protests Campus Screening of 'American Sniper'

“The showing will be coupled with an optional educational forum for all members of the Rennselaer campus community to participate in an intellectual discourse about the film and current world events,” RPI said in a statement.

The school postponed the screening because officials said they didn’t want to create tension or hatred among students. But many students called the postponement censorship and a slap at free speech.

University of Michigan also recently canceled an “American Sniper” screening, then reversed course, calling it a mistake.
