Police in California are asking for the public's help in catching an unusual suspect.

They are looking for a bank robber who is being dubbed "Mrs. Doubtfire" for wearing a disguise that resembles the character played famously by the late Robin Williams in the 1993 film.

Jonathan Hunt reported on "America's Newsroom" today that with the help of that disguise, the suspect was able to pull off a heist.

"He or she went into one bank first in Santa Cruz, California, and seemed to case that bank out," Hunt said. "About an hour later, [the suspect] went into a U.S. Bank branch and that's where he or she demanded money. No weapons were involved in this."

Hunt said that the bank teller handed over the cash and the suspect was able to get away.

"When the bank employees contacted the suspect, they were surprised to see that although he was dressed like a female, the suspect was actually a male," a statement from the Santa Cruz Police Department reads. "Hence the title, the 'Mrs. Doubtfire' bank robbery."

Police describe the suspect as between 25 and 35 years old, 160 to 170 pounds, standing 5 foot 5 inches tall, Hunt said.

The suspect was wearing prescription glasses, a wavy blond wig, navy blue scrubs and a light purple long-sleeve undershirt.

Anyone who recognizes the bandit is being asked to call the Santa Cruz Police Department at 831-420-5995.
