A Fresno, California firefighter was seriously injured Sunday when he fell through the roof of a burning home.

The 25-year veteran of the Fresno Fire Department suffered second and third-degree burns on 65 to 75 percent of his body, according to authorities.

Harrowing video shows the firefighter walking on the roof over the garage. He stamps the roof with a pole before falling through. A burst of flames immediately rises through the opening.

Firefighters rushed to rescue their fallen comrade. They reportedly were able to extract him from the flaming garage within three minutes.

The unnamed firefighter, who is a captain with the Fresno Fire Department, was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
