Two police officers are being hailed as heroes after jumping into action to save a family from a potentially deadly car fire.

The officers spotted the vehicle on fire during a routine patrol Wednesday in Chillicothe, Ohio.

"As the car approached and got closer, I said, 'That car's on fire!'" Officer Benjamin Rhoads told WBNS

Rhoads and his partner, Officer Matthew Howell, immediately jumped out of their vehicle to help save the family and it was all caught on dash cam video.

There were two young girls in the back seat and the video shows the older girl getting of the vehicle without needing assistance.

But Howell had to use a pocket knife to free the younger girl from a car seat.

The video shows the officers ushering the family away from the vehicle to a safe distance.

"It's just part of the job. We were just there when it happened, thank God," Rhoads told WBNS.
