Eleven Western medical students – including an American – are believed to have traveled to Syria to work in ISIS-controlled hospitals.

Tom Rogan, of the National Review, went “On The Record” to explain.

Rogan said that the vast majority are British-Sudanese medical students. He said the students were studying in Sudan, then crossed into Turkey and continued on to Syria.

Rogan explained that the concern is that these students have traveled to Syria because they believe they can serve a purpose in ISIS by using their skills to help injured fighters.

He said the ISIS medical doctrine is profoundly authoritarian, in that people’s services are measured by how useful they are and how willing they are to subscribe to an ideology.
