Authorities have just released the video of Eddie Ray Routh confessing to the murders of former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield.

A Texas jury found Routh guilty of capital murder in the 2013 shooting deaths last night.

Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty, and Routh was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Routh admitted to killing the two men at a gun range on Feb. 2, 2013, but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

In the chilling new confession video, Routh can be seen telling police he "had to" kill Kyle and Littlefield to "get out of the situation" he was in that day.

Routh's attorneys said the former Marine was in the grip of a medically diagnosed psychosis at the time of the killings.

But in the confession tape, Routh answers "yes" when an officer asks him whether he knew what he did was wrong.

Routh's attorneys are planning to appeal his conviction.
