Jury May Hear Alleged 'American Sniper' Killer's Chilling Confession
The trial of Eddie Ray Routh, the accused killer of "American Sniper" Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield, enters its second week today.
The key witness who recorded Routh's chilling, 50-minute confession just hours after the murders will take the stand today, and jurors could see the full videotape.
In the recording, Routh reportedly tells Texas Ranger Danny Briley, "I knew if I did not take his soul, he was going to take mine. I had to kill a man today. It wasn't a want to. It was a need."
Erath County District Court Judge Jason Cashon has not ruled on whether or not the tape will be played in front of the jury.
Routh is accused of shooting Kyle, 38, six times and Littlefield, 35, seven times at the Rough Creek Lodge gun range in Glen Rose, Texas, on Feb. 2, 2013.
