A small dog caused major delays for commuters after it escaped from its owner and ran onto a Utah highway during rush hour on Monday.

Animal Control officials say the Pomeranian mix's owner took the dog off the leash during a walk.

The pooch squeezed through a fence and escaped onto Legacy Parkway, where it backed up traffic in both directions.

Animal control officers tried unsuccessfully to catch the dog. At one point, four police cruisers were tailing the scared pup.

The dog was finally caught after the owner showed up in his own car half an hour later and called it by name.

The dog is fine, but the owner was fined $110 and cited for having an animal running at large, a leash violation and having an animal in a prohibited place.
