Disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong crashed his SUV into two parked cars after a night of partying and then let his girlfriend take the blame, according to police.

Armstrong's longtime girlfriend, Anna Hansen, initially told police that she had been driving home from an event at the Aspen Art Museum on Dec. 28 when she lost control of Armstrong's vehicle on icy Colorado roads.

Detectives later interviewed Hansen, who eventually admitted that Armstrong was driving. She said the couple had decided to let her take the blame to avoid national attention.

Police cited Armstrong, who was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles in 2012 due to doping, with failure to report an accident and speeding. He is due in court on March 17.

Hansen was not charged with a crime.
