Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby was on “Hannity” tonight, where he said that the Defense Department stands by the decision to swap five former Taliban members for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

“We still stand by this decision as being the right decision,” he said. “It’s a powerful message to our troops and their families that we’re not going to leave you behind. And it doesn’t matter how you came to be missing. We’ll deal with that later, and right now, General Milley is dealing with that. We’re going to make sure we can get you home.”

Sean Hannity also questioned Kirby on the allegations that a freed Guantanamo Bay detainee who was swapped for Bergdahl has contacted the Taliban.

Kirby said the Defense Department takes allegations of reengagement very seriously and that the Defense Department is confident that it can mitigate any threat posed by one of the Taliban Five.
