A half-million taxpayer dollars were spent on a building in Afghanistan that melted within four months, according to a report.

The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction says a police training center's dry fire range began to disintegrate after it was completed in 2012.

A contractor reportedly used shoddy building materials, which trapped water in the walls. The range had to be demolished and rebuilt.

A watchdog commission recommends recovering the money spent and disciplining those who were charged with oversight.

CENTCOM says it plans to take proper action.
