A Muslim police officer who rushed to the scene of Wednesday’s Charlie Hebdo attack is being hailed as a hero.

Ahmed Merabet was the last of the 12 killed in the Paris attack after he rushed to the scene on his bike. One of the suspects gunned down Merabet in the street before fleeing.

Merabet, who was the son of immigrants from North Africa, reportedly worked as a police officer for eight years.

Following the attack, #JeSuisAhmed trended on Twitter.
