China has removed a video online of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s chivalrous gesture to the country’s first lady.

When world leaders gathered in China, Putin was caught on camera wrapping a shawl around a chilly Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan, who accepted it with a bow before quickly removing it and donning her own coat.

The video went viral, in part because Putin is reportedly seen by many Chinese women as a “heartthrob.” The Chinese government didn’t like that and removed it.

Chinese historian Zhang Lifan says, “China is traditionally conservative on public interaction between unrelated men and women, and the public show of consideration by Putin may provide fodder for jokes, which the big boss probably does not like.”

Meanwhile, China did not censor criticism of President Barack Obama for chewing gum while walking into the same event. Some called the move immature and disrespectful.
