In tonight’s Talking Points Memo, Bill O’Reilly discussed reports that President Barack Obama will sign an executive order on illegal immigration soon.

The Washington Post claims that the president will sign the order shortly. Tonight, O’Reilly said he “would not be surprised” if the order comes during Thanksgiving week since the holiday is symbolized by pilgrim immigrants.

O’Reilly charged Obama with trying to put the Republican Party on the defensive, and he warned that “things could get nasty.”

“There is no urgency that would require an executive order to be signed right now,” O’Reilly said, stressing that the best move for the nation would be to allow the new Congress to have a few weeks to design an immigration bill.

O’Reilly said that immigration is low on the list of priorities for many Americans, calling this a “pure political play” on the part of Obama.

“He is trying to deflect attention away from his economic record and into the conservative versus liberal battle,” he said.

O’Reilly said that the government – from President Reagan on – has been complicit in allowing people to illegally cross the border.

“That’s because business makes money from illegal immigration,” he said. “So with the U.S. government at fault, it should now try to right some wrongs. Seal the border and get some fair policies about people living here illegally.”
