A U.S. Marine held in a Mexican jail for more than 200 days was released by a Mexican judge on Friday.

Mexican authorities had hit Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi with an array of federal weapons charges, while he said he made a wrong turn and crossed the border into Mexico with guns which were legally registered in the U.S., but illegal in Mexico.

After a strong diplomatic push, the judge decided to release the former Marine on humanitarian grounds.

The AP reported that Tahmooressi's family said they were relieved and humbled.
