GOOD NEWS Off-Duty Officer Finds $120,000, Returns to Rightful Owner
What would you do if you found more than $120,000 in cash lying in the middle of the street?
That’s what an off-duty California Highway Patrol officer had to ask herself yesterday when she was driving her personal vehicle in Concord, California and had to swerve to avoid hitting two bags in the middle of Concord Boulevard.
The officer – who spoke off-camera, wishing to remain anonymous – said, "It was two bank bags that said Bank of America. And I thought, 'I wonder if this is from some type of bank robbery or something.' I opened it just enough to see that there were stacks of $100 bills."
Instead of keeping the fortune for herself, the officer made the surprising decision to return the money to its rightful owner.
Although the decision has raised some eyebrows, she has received praise for her honesty and insists it was simply the right thing to do.
