A wild scene unfolded outside a Miami hotel where a man carjacked a woman and then plowed into several vehicles and people as he tried to get away.

The incident occurred Wednesday morning in the valet area of the J.W. Marriott Marquis. Four people were injured when the suspect hit them and one person is reportedly in critical condition.

Police arrested Alberto Ruiz, 50, a few hours later.

Ruiz allegedly pushed a woman out of her Lexus as she got out, then drove off as valet staff attempted to stop him.

"People were getting wedged, run over, pinned. He could not care less. He just wanted to take off," said officer Rene Pimentel.

After escaping, Ruiz left the stolen Lexus outside an apartment building in Little Havana. Hours later, he was found inside a motel at West 34th Avenue and Flagler Street in Miami at around 8:40 p.m.

Ruiz reportedly resisted arrest and was injured. "Attempting to close the door on the officers, continued to resist, and he ended up having to be tasered," said Pimentel.

After being subdued with a Taser, Ruiz was rushed to the emergency room at JMH where some of the people he injured on Wednesday were admitted, including one who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. That man has since improved and upgraded to fair.

Ruiz has a lengthy rap sheet dating back to 1983. He faces charges that include carjacking and attempted murder.
